The electric cooperatives in Missouri, southeast Iowa, and northeast Oklahoma are sponsoring this energy efficiency initiative.
You have the power to affect your energy consumption (in kilowatt-hours and in money) by managing use wisely—reducing the amount spent on the inefficient use of energy.
This energy-efficiency initiative is built on two core ideas:
- 1) Take control of electricity use, and thereby
- 2) save energy.

As cooperative members, we all carry the responsibility to make the best use of our energy resources. While the costs of providing reliable electricity have been rising, your cooperative system has been working with our power supplier, Associated Electric Cooperative Inc., to find the best ways to ease the burden of those costs—for our individual members and for our entire cooperative network.
One of the most important things we can do is slow the growth in energy use. By using electricity wisely, we can optimize our generating capacity in order to postpone building costly new power plants. The good news is that everything you do to reduce your use not only helps
us manage growth, it also helps you manage your energy budget.

Our new energy-efficiency initiative features a number of programs that will help you make the most of the electricity you use. Click on the program icons below or choose from the pull-down menu at top right to learn how you can Take Control & Save.

Energy-Efficient Lighting
Compact fluorescent (CFL) bulbs are more energy-efficient and less expensive in the long term than traditional incandescent lighting. These versatile bulbs provide high-quality light and reduce pollution, and can be used nearly anywhere incandescents are used.

Residential Energy Usage
A complete home energy audit can reveal sources of air leakage, duct leaks, insulation settling, or other problem areas. A diagnostic blower door test and other measures can help show you where you have heat loss and heat gain in your home.

Commercial & Industrial Energy Usage
A comprehensive energy audit, conducted by a certified energy manager, can reveal significant technology improvements leading to increased savings and shorter ROI periods. Learn more about the process to help determine if your business can benefit from a complete energy audit.

Appliance Rebates
Today’s appliances are more energy efficient than those purchased ten or more years ago. Energy Star® appliances use less energy. Your local electric cooperative may offer a rebate for you to purchase a new Energy Star appliance and replace an older, less efficient appliance.

Efficiency Education & Seminars
There are many opportunities to educate members about energy efficiency. From Community Action Groups to efficiency expert Doug Rye, resources allow co-ops to plan an information seminar in their area to help members with their energy-efficiency needs.

Efficient Heating & Cooling
Today’s heat pumps offer greater comfort, better reliability, and greater heating and cooling efficiency. If you’re building a new home, your co-op can help you choose energy-efficient construction techniques—and you might even qualify for a rebate on a new heat pump system.
